RANDOLPH, Mass. — A longtime Randolph police officer was killed in a car crash Saturday morning.
Randolph Police Chief Anthony Marag said Officer Michael Beal was involved in a crash with another car on Rt. 3 by the Derby Street exit. Beal died from his injuries, according to Marag.
Beal was married with eight children. He was a 35-year veteran of the Randolph Police Department.
“He was an amazing person and friend to all within this department. This amazing family man leaves behind a wife and eight children,” Marag said in a statement. “Please keep his family, friends, and members of the Randolph Police Department in your thoughts and prayers.”
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office said the crash happened around 6:20 a.m. on Rt. 3 South in Hingham. Arriving officers found Beal in the road and his car crashed in the median.
Beal was pronounced dead at the scene, the district attorney said. He was 61 years old.
A second car was stopped in the breakdown lane with heavy front end damage. That driver was taken to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries.
State Police are investigating the crash.
