NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. — It’s been two days and animal control still hasn’t been able to track down the missing python and neither have the residents.
“I was going to contact the realtor and put the house on the market and that is the truth,” said Aimee Lepine of Northbridge.
The 3 ½ foot ball python was last seen in the back of Lepine’s East Street home and now she’s afraid to even stand for an interview.
“I don’t wanna see anything behind me right now,” she said.
A couple of people have called it in, one even tried to capture it.
“He says when he stepped out it was going across where his car was parked and he tried to grab it and away it went,” said Daniel Chauvin, regional animal control officer.
“I just heard from another neighbor, they said snakes on the loose,” said Steven Chludenski. “I said ‘Oh great.’ I walk my dog that way and I didn’t see anything but I was looking all over the place.”
The search isn’t just under pallets and in the bushes but also your garage.
“A lot of people are doing yardwork and the garage doors are open,” said Chauvin. “That’s a perfect place to get out of the shade.”
“I won’t be going in the garage anymore,” said Lepine. “I really won’t.”
So what do you do if you see it?
“Please don’t hurt him or hit him with a shovel or your foot,” said Chauvin. “The best thing to do is back away, keep an eye on him, and call me.”
Chauvin says the pythons wouldn’t survive New England winters so it’s definitely someone’s pet that got loose.
He says the ball python is a common pet, but no one has reported one missing yet. He says if it’s yours, you’re not in trouble, and as long as you can keep it contained, you’ll probably get it back.
