AMESBURY, Mass. — A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash on Interstate 495 on Wednesday tried to accelerate through a “tight gap” between a tractor-trailer and a Tesla, investigators said.
Troopers responding to a report of a crash on the northbound side of the highway in Amesbury around 8 p.m. found a motorcyclist who was in need of emergency medical treatment, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The motorcyclist, 34-year-old Kruise A. Herring Delgado, of Lowell, was rushed to Anna Jacques Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
State police noted that Delgado was operating his 2009 Yamaha YZFR6 at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
“According to evidence gathered by Troopers, Mr. Delgado attempted to accelerate through a tight gap between a tractor-trailer and a 2021 Tesla,” state police said in a statement. “The Yamaha possibly struck the rear of the trailer being pulled by the tractor cab and then impacted the driver’s side of the Tesla.”
Delgado was thrown from the motorcycle when it overturned and slid into the median.
The operator of the Tesla was not injured. The tractor-trailer driver did not stop and state police say its unclear whether they aware of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
