Police investigating after Rockland man struck, killed in car crash

ROCKLAND, Mass — Police are investigating after a Rockland man was killed when they were struck by a motor vehicle Friday night.

Officers responded to the area of 430 Union Street for a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle around 9:18 p.m. Richard Erwin, 63, was rushed to South Shore Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

An initial investigation revealed a brown KIA Optima driven by 18-year-old Jacob Ryan was traveling north when it hit Erwin. Ryan was not injured in the crash.

The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded and is assisting the Rockland Police Department with the ongoing investigation.
