Police investigating after pedestrian hit and killed during crash in Newburyport

Newburyport, Mass — Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a motor vehicle in Newburyport Saturday night.

Police responded to Low Street near Port Plaza around 9:00 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

The pedestrian, who has not been named, was transported by ambulance to Anna Jaques Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police shut down Low Street between Williamson Avenue and Port Plaza and asked drivers to avoid the area.

An investigation is ongoing.
