Police identify grandmother shot and killed on porch in Dorchester

BOSTON — A 73-year-old woman was shot and killed while sitting on her porch Saturday evening in Dorchester, city police and the Suffolk County District Attorney said. That woman has since been identified as Delois Brown, 73, of Dorchester.

That shooting took place just before 6 p.m. in the area of 19 Olney St. in the neighborhood. No arrests have been made.

City officials shared their outrage about the shooting as they spoke to media on Saturday night.

“It’s absurd that a grandmother can’t sit on her porch on a beautiful spring day without the worry of gunfire,” said Boston Mayor Kim Janey. “Emotions are very high here, neighbors are still out. They’re very traumatized.”

According to Boston Police, it does not appear that the grandmother was the intended target of the shooting. A motive was also unclear on Saturday night.

“You need to hear me, that we are going to be prosecuting people that have guns, you will be sent away, and there will be no recourse for you. So we will find you and we will hold you accountable,” Rollins said after the shooting.
