Teamsters on strike in Hingham over ‘insufficient’ contract proposal

HINGHAM, Mass. — Teamsters Local 25 members at Airgas in Hingham are on strike after voting down what they say is an unfair contract proposal.

The strike went into effect at midnight on February 1 after the 13 drivers’ contracts expired.

The workers, who stood out on Research Road, argued for better pay and benefits. The strike has caught the attention of State Rep. Joan Meschino, State Senator Patrick O’Connor and State Senator Paul Feeney, who have all expressed support.

In a statement, Airgas said they respect and value all 18,500 associates and remains committed to providing services for their customers.

“Airgas continues to bargain in good faith with Local 25 and hopes to quickly reach a mutually agreeable resolution, as we have done with many other bargaining units,” a spokesperson said on Thursday.

Airgas is supplier of gases, welding equipment and supplies, and safety products with over 900 retail locations.
