Brockton High School was evacuated Friday morning following reports of a fire.
Crews responded around 10:18 a.m. for a report of a student’s district-issued laptop catching fire in the core building, according to officials.
School police were able to extinguish the fire before the firefighters’ arrival and there were no reports of any injuries.
A table and carpets in the classroom sustained minor damage during the incident.
The laptop on fire was removed using a cell block blanket outside the school.
Brockton Public Schools’ Tech Services Department will be conducting spot checks on other district equipment as a precaution.
In a statement, a district spokesperson said, “We are grateful for the quick actions of school police in extinguishing this fire and ensuring student and staff safety. We also appreciate the efforts of the Brockton Fire Department, which utilized special equipment meant for remediating lithium-ion battery fires to make the area safe after this incident.”
Students and staff have re-entered the building and the school day is continuing as normal.
