PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Two people were rushed to the hospital after the pickup truck they were riding in plunged off a bridge in Plymouth and landed in a river below, officials said.
Emergency crews responding to a report of a crash in the area of the Warren Avenue Bridge and Long Beach around 8:45 p.m. Monday found a black pickup truck resting on its side in the Eel River, according to the Plymouth Fire Department.
The two occupants in the truck were removed from the wreckage and taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth. There was no immediate word on the severity of their injuries.
An investigation revealed that the truck veered off the road, barreled through a guardrail, and struck a stanchion before plummeting into the river.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation was called to the scene to inspect the bridge. It has since been deemed safe.
Video showed a heavy-duty tow truck lifting the vehicle out of the water.
The crash remains under investigation.
