One of the Patriots’ brightest young stars has been recognized as one of the league’s special talents.
Marcus Jones was named to the NFL’s All-Pro First Team for his role as New England’s ace punt returner.
Jones led the NFL in punt return yards last season despite having four fewer punt return opportunities than the next three players immediately below him.
The third-round rookie out of Houston also scored one punt return touchdown, a walk-off scamper that lifted New England to a 10-3 win over New York Jets in Week 11.
In addition to his special team’s prowess, the 24-year-old Jones displayed utility in the two other phases of the game. In addition to his regular duties in New England’s defensive backfield, the Patriots occasionally deployed the speedster as a gadget weapon on offense. A designed screen play for the 5′8″ defensive back provided New England’s opening touchdown in their Week 13 matchup against the Bills.
