GLOUCESTER, Mass. — Gloucester Police are working to solve two brazen armed robberies in less than 24 hours.
Police said it’s unclear if the crimes that both occurred in broad daylight are connected.
The first happened Sunday around 4:31 p.m. at Yellow Sub Shop on Pleasant Street.
According to police, the masked suspect pulled out a machete inside the business.
The owner of the business told Boston 25 News that four employees were working at the time, and they handed over all of the cash that was in the register.
She said two of those workers are teenagers – 16 and 18 years old.
“It’s a really messed up situation. These really hardworking people too, and they’re kids just trying to work and get by,” said one neighbor. “They should be brought to full justice.”
Gloucester Police said the second armed robbery happened around 10:47 a.m. Monday morning at the Speedway gas station on Main Street.
The suspect in that incident was caught on camera wearing a hat with a black bandana covering his face.
Police said he pulled out a gun and demanded money and cigarettes from a gas station employee before running away.
Anyone who believes they may have information about either incident is asked to call Gloucester Police detectives at 978-283-1212.
