GILFORD, New Hampshire — 4 people were taken to the hospital after an out-of-control boat crashed into an NH Marine Patrol boat on Lake Winnipesaukee.
According to State Police, on Wednesday, July 19 around 10:25 p.m.offiers responded to a 911 call from a person on Lake Winnipesaukee, yelling for help while a boat was circling in the area. The call came from the area of Round Island in the town of Gilford.
Marine Patrol officers responded to the scene, and upon arrival, they found a boat crashed with two victims in the water. The officers were able to rescue the two victims and bring them into the patrol boat.
Marine Patrol located the boat belonging to the victims. It was still running and wandering erratically on the lake. The officers attempted to try and stop the boat by throwing a line into the water in its path, to entangle the propeller but were not successful.
On the second attempt, the boat struck the Marine Patrol boat, causing it to capsize. Both Officers were thrown overboard and then pinned under the boat for a short time. Both officers were able to escape.
Good samaritans who have not been identified yet pulled the officers out to the water and were able to stop the out-of-control boat.
Both victims from the original crash were taken to Concord Hospital – Laconia and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both officers were also evaluated at the hospital as a precaution, and neither was injured.
