LYNN, Mass. — A Lynn man has passed away following injuries he sustained from a Saturday fire at a Lewis Street apartment, officials say.

The fire occurred at 11:45 a.m. Saturday morning, December 28, when fire crews were dispatched to 104-106 Lewis Street to reports of smoke in the building.

Once on the scene, fire crews made entry where they found a man in his 40s unresponsive. Crews removed him from the building and began life-saving measures on the scene. The man was then transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he later passed away.

“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones,” said Lynn Fire Chief Daniel Sullivan. “On behalf of the Lynn Fire Department, I want to extend our heartfelt condolences for their loss.”

Fire Chief Sullivan also said several other residents were displaced due to water and smoke damage.

Officals are still investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
