Driver killed after car slams into utility pole in Carver

CARVER, Mass — A 56-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Carver on Wednesday morning, police said.

The woman, a Carver resident, was not immediately identified.

At 5:38 a.m. Wednesday, police and fire personnel responded to the area of 240 Main St. for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, first responders saw that a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole. Photos from the scene showed a utility pole on Main Street snapped in half and an entangled mess of wires hanging over the crunched vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was taken by ambulance to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth, where she was pronounced dead.

A portion of Route 58 was closed while investigators were on scene. One lane of traffic has since been reopened.

Carver Police are investigating the crash with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

Earlier Wednesday, Carver police alerted residents that their phone lines were temporarily down.
