REVERE, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police say they’re increasing patrols at Revere Beach Sunday after fights broke out Saturday.
“It was intense, it was kind of crazy,” said Anthony, who saw some of the aftermath of the violence Saturday.
Massachusetts State Police say several hundred people were packed in by the bandstand when a series of fights broke out. They say a boy was taken to the hospital with potentially serious injuries.
“We came and saw a bunch of cops, honestly we thought it was a concert or something went on, then came and everybody was talking about a bunch of fights, and it was kind of crazy,” said Anthony.
Mass. State Police say they arrested five people in connection to the fights and unruly behavior – most of them were minors.
“I have a lot of friends who live around here, and they come here with families and stuff, and I don’t think you want to come to the place that’s going to be like that and put your family at risk,” said Perez.
Families say it’s a shame if violence increases along the beach now that it’s finally nice enough to enjoy the ocean.
Police in Hampton, New Hampshire also broke up a few large fights on the beach this weekend.
They arrested several people after the crowds continued to disrupt traffic on Ocean Boulevard.
“We don’t have to be crazy, we can have a good time, we can enjoy the vibe, it felt like a good party, a good summer environment,” said Anthony. “But if we’re fighting everybody, if we’re killing everybody, we’re going to cause problems, we can’t have this fun because they’re going to start shutting stuff down.”
State Police shut down a portion of Revere Beach Boulevard Saturday after the fights.
“Hopefully it doesn’t happen again, so we can enjoy the rest of the summer,” said Perez.
