LAWRENCE, Mass. — Roughly a dozen Bennington Street residents and Lawrence Police officers jumped into action Thursday to hoist a car off a woman trapped underneath.
Witnesses say a woman was just delivering flowers when a car rolled back slightly, trapping the woman under the wheel of the car.
“The lady had the legs under the wheel,” Lawrence resident Jenny Minaya said. “She was panicked and was like oh my god and called 911 and tell them hurry to get here.”
That’s when neighbors heard the cries for help.
Elvis Burgos and his father Anthony heard screams from outside near their driveway and bolted out of their Bennington Street home.
“She was just crying for help,” said Elvis. “The whole wheel was on top of this leg right here... I’m still trying to wrap my head around it but it’s one of those scenarios you see once in a lifetime.”
The father-duo were just two of the roughly 15 neighbors and officers who helped lift the nearly 4,000-pound car off the woman.
“Who knows how long she could have been out here in the cold,” said Edward Delorbe, a Bennington Street resident.
Surveillance footage from a nearby store captured the ordeal all on camera.
Elvis recounted the incident, saying that he, his father, and a dozen other neighbors and police officers essentially ripped off the car’s bumper to pry the woman out from under the wheel.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, it was one of those scenarios that you see once in a lifetime I guess”
An absolute team and neighborhood effort to save the woman’s life.
She was taken to the hospital, where the Lawerence Fire Chief says that she suffered non-serious injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
