LUDLOW, Mass. — In an elope for the ages, an antelope from a Western Massachusetts zoo escaped last week and authorities are still trying to find him.
Ludlow Animal Control says an Eland antelope escaped from the Lupa Zoo after a storm and was last seen in Wilbraham near the Red Bridge.
A tree fell and broke the paddock the antelope were staying in, zoo officials say, and that’s when the adult male went for a stroll around the surrounding towns. The female, however, stayed put in her paddock.
Police are asking the public not to approach the animal because he will run, but rather to notify local law enforcement.
Officials say he is a non aggressive herbivore, but will kick if approached from behind.
Eland antelope are the world’s largest, native to more than 17 African countries.
