DENNIS, Mass. — The body of a 15-year-old male was found after officials said he went missing while swimming on the Cape Saturday night.
Dennis, Yarmouth and State Police actively searched for the teen after getting a call that he was missing at 7:46 p.m.
He reportedly disappeared while swimming with five friends in the Bass River, according to Dennis Police Lt. Peter Benson and State Police.
He was reportedly swimming to a nearby buoy when he disappeared, Dennis Police said. One of those friends swam out to the boy, but was unable to hold him up before he reportedly went under.
Officials searched the water near the Highbank Road Bridge, which Yarmouth Police closed during its search. The Coast Guard and harbormaster also assisted.
According to Dennis PD, the 15yo started struggling while he was swimming to the buoy, and a friend swam over to try and help. The friend “lost control of him” and the boy went under, and did not return to the surface. @boston25 pic.twitter.com/HpWVm9tb37
