Suspect shot by Revere Police held without bail

REVERE, Mass. — A man shot by police in Revere Friday night has been held without bail on charges that he fired at officers first.

Police say Daniel Cote, 32, of Revere, was yelling in the middle of Broadway and pulled a gun on them, and fired. Police returned fire, hitting Cote in the foot.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Revere Police Chief David Callahan tells Boston 25 two of his officers were also hospitalized for stress-related injuries.

A witness who was at a nearby ATM heard arguing and saw the whole incident unfold.

“I was walking to ATM. I turned and heard someone yelling,” said the man, who asked not to be identified. “I heard ‘drop the gun,’ heard three to four shots.”

A Boston 25 viewer sent in video of Cote being placed on a stretcher and then loaded into an ambulance.

Assistant Suffolk District Attorney William Kettlewell says a 9mm handgun, spent casings and a hypodermic needle at the scene. Cote faces charges of armed assault with intent to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

A judge ordered him to be evaluated at Bridgewater State Hospital. His next court date is April 29.
