Norwood Police welcomes newest officer: an 8-week-old Golden Retriever

NORWOOD, Mass — The Norwood Police is welcoming their newest officer to the force, an 8-week-old Golden Retriever.

The new pup was sworn in by Chief Brooks and has pawsitive people skills and passed her Good Girl background check with flying colors.

“There is lots of specialized training (and treats) ahead for this good girl,” the Norwood Police Department said

The girl will be assigned with School Resource Officer Baguma and the two will complete a Police “Pup” Academy.

The two will undergo hundreds of hours of training before they are able to graduate and work within Norwood schools and the community to create peace and calm for whoever may need it.

Yesterday, Officer Baguma brought the pup along with her academy classmates to check out the Norwood Public Safety Headquarters. She was accompanied by Odin (he is in training as a therapy dog), Milkshake (Charlton MA Police dog in training), and Taunton Police’s new recruit who has yet to be named.

The name of this pup will be announced later this week.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
