Norfolk Police Department investigating thefts using DoorDash to steal packages

NORFOLK, Mass. — The Norfolk Police Department is investigating reports of attempted package thefts across town involving DoorDash’s package delivery service.

Norfolk police received a call Monday afternoon, January 13, of suspicious activity at Pennacock Street home.

Three packages were delivered to the house earlier that day, two containing Apple products.

While investigating the incident, police learned that three drivers, who appeared to be working for DoorDash, had gone to the address within 25 minutes. However, no pickup request was made.

The DoorDash drivers were legitimate and followed the order instructions of the person attempting to steal the packages.

Norfolk police have shared tips on how to prevent package theft:

  • Consider getting a P.O. box at your local post office or having packages delivered to your office or a package delivery locker
  • Set up notifications to track your packages
  • Install a security camera in the area(s) outside your home where packages may be delivered
  • Require a signature upon delivery to ensure packages are never left unattended
  • Reschedule delivery or ask for a package hold when on vacation
  • Research potential home security technology and locking device options to protect and monitor packages
  • Try smart locks or get a package guard alarm
  • Ask your neighbors to grab your packages for safekeeping until you return home

Norfolk police are still investigating the incident, and urge anyone with information to contact their department at 508-528-3206.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
