Paul Murray describes his son as a bright light in their lives.
On Tuesday, December 31, 12-year-old Jack Murray went skiing on Cranmore Mountain in North Conway when he struck a tree, and later passed away from his injuries.
It’s hard for Paul and the rest of the family to explain what they’re going through, but they are taking stock of how special Jack’s life was.
“It’s the most complete I have ever felt in my life as a human being...when Jack came into our lives,” Paul said. “Just a constant bright spot.”
He remembers his son as fearless, who had a passion for life.
Jack had a particular fondness for arts and music, where he played the trombone and drums in the Chapman Middle School band.
He was also a budding entrepreneur who sold cookies to restaurants and started an eBay store to sell thrift shop goods.
“He packed more into 12 years than most do in a lifetime,” his father said. “We’re trying to accept the love and take all of the brightness and wonderfulness that he put into the world — just try to use that to get through this as best as we can right now.”
Jack left a lasting mark on those who knew him.
“To know Jack Murray is to know a celebrity,” Angela, a family friend said. “This little boy was bigger than life.”
Connor Fitzgerald, an 8th grader at Maria Chapman Middle School, rode the bus with Jack every day.
He said the bus has been quiet this week.
“It’s not the same without you dude,” Connor said Friday. “He’s the nicest kid ever… Always made sure everyone was ok, always said good morning to everyone on the bus, made sure everyone was having a good day.”
Jack’s classmates set up a memorial TikTok page in his honor, according to family members.
Students at the Chapman Middle School also wore Jack’s favorite color, blue, to show their love.
A GoFundMe page has been started to raise money for the school band he played in.
