WORCESTER, Mass- — This late winter Nor’easter is causing some headaches in Worcester.
The snow blowers and Bobcats are working overtime to keep the sidewalks clear, while plow drivers are busy making their passes on city streets.
This is far from the biggest storm Worcester has ever seen, but still, it’s something to deal with.
“I think it’s just a nuisance snowstorm. It’s heavy, which is hard to shovel and some people’s snow blowers just don’t cut it,” Resident Steve Hammett said.
The storm was strong enough for the city to close its municipal buildings, like City Hall at noon, and that means Tuesday night’s City Council meeting is canceled too.
At the DPW yard, crews work to fill trucks with the treatment needed to keep the streets snow and ice-free.
Worcester Schools were canceled Monday, leaving plenty of family bonding time.
“I really like it because I get to spend time with my mom and hang out with her,” said fourth-grader Emma Viruet.
“I’m actually loving it,” said Eve Whitney. “I missed not having any snow, it’s nice to have snow for a change.”
“You’d think we’d already be done with it, considering it’s just about Spring. But I guess it had to get here at some point,” Annette LeClair said.
Across Worcester, as snow and rain mixed, people focused, not on the backbreaking work of snow removal, but on how quickly things will change for the better.
“It’s been crazy. It’s been unseasonably warm. We were bound to get some kind of snow. It’s March. The good thing is, it’s going to be in the high 40s later in the week, so it probably won’t stay around for very long,” said Sue Cahill of Worcester.
