BROCKTON, Mass. — An 18-year-old man has been ordered held without bail in connection with the death of a 19-year-old man who was found inside a Brockton apartment suffering from nearly 30 stab wounds early Saturday morning.

Jayden Fernandez was arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court on a charge of murder in the death of Kyre Ambrose.

Officers responding to a 911 call from a resident on Foster Street just before 2 a.m. on Saturday found Ambrose suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz. A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

Ambrose was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A prosecutor told the court that a preliminary review by the state medical examiner’s office found 28 apparent stab wounds.

The victim’s mother told investigators that Ambrose was home from college and that she was woken up by the “sounds of her son yelling for help,” the prosecutor said.

“When she went downstairs, she saw a male on tap of her son, apparently punching him,” the prosecutor said. “The male, upon her coming downstairs, fled the residence. He is believed to have left behind red stains on the railing and ground.”

Authorities said Fernandez was arrested after investigators canvassed the area and reviewed surveillance video that allegedly showed him entering the scene of the crime and the victim opening the door to let him in.

Fernandez was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital to be treated for a hand injury after he was taken into custody.

Fernandez allegedly told hospital staff and his mother that he had been at a party and gotten in a fight, according to the prosecution. Apparent “red-brown” stains similar to the prints found at the victim’s apartment were also detected in the suspect’s car and on his clothing.

Fernandez pleaded not guilty and is due back in court for a dangerousness hearing in February.
