NEWPORT, R.I. — Newport Police Chief Travis Bingham announced that the police department have arrested a woman accused of cruelty towards a child.

Fawn-Marie Hall, 36, of Newport was arrested Friday afternoon after police responded to home on Pleasant Street for reports of two people arguing.

Once on scene, officers interviewed multiple witnesses that saw Hall get in an argument with a neighbor and throwing an alcoholic beverage towards the neighbor.

After a preliminary investigation, police learned that Hall had been forcing a 16-year-old to ingest a household detergent (which is labeled to not be ingested), mixed with alcohol daily.

The 16-year-old was immediately transported to a local hospital, with the Department of Children and Families being notified.

Hall was placed under arrest and booked at Newport Police Station. She is being charged with:

  • Assault
  • Cruelty to a Child
  • First Degree Aggravated Domestic
  • Violation of Title 13 VSA

Hall is expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon at Orleans District County Court.
