New videos show plane flip upon landing in water at Hampton Beach, wreckage being hauled to shore

HAMPTON BEACH, N.H. — New videos show the moment a small plane towing a banner landed and flipped in the water at Hampton Beach and a group of people hauling the wreckage to shore as hundreds of beachgoers looked on over the weekend.

The single-engine plane crashed near the shore of the packed beach around 12 p.m., prompting a massive emergency response, according to Hampton fire officials.

A video shared with Boston 25 showed the plane cut its banner loose before the pilot descended, landed in the water, and overturned upon impact in close proximity to a group of swimmers.

Lifeguards rushed into the water to help the pilot. The pilot was evaluated at the scene and wasn’t taken to the hospital.

The pilot was the only person on the plane and no one at the beach was hurt.

Another video shared with Boston 25 showed a group of lifeguards and good Samaritans pulling the airplane from the water.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
