Multiple New Hampshire brush fires prompt three-alarm response from numerous fire departments

DERRY, N.H. — Derry Fire Department responded to multiple brush fires off Interstate 93 that prompted a three-alarm response from numerous first responders.

Crews were dispatched to the Fordway extension on I-93 around 1 p.m. on Wednesday to multiple reports of a brush fire.

As Derry firefighters arrived at the brush fire, other 9-1-1 calls came pouring in about additional brush fires across the interstate in Windham. Windham fire crews were also called in for assistance.

The brush fires eventually escalated to a three-alarm response, prompting all members of the Derry Fire Department to the scene, along with mutual aid from other companies.

Crews managed to contain the fire and bring it under control at 3:09 p.m. Fire crews are currently cleaning the scene.

Mutual aid from Atkinson, Auburn, Bedford, Candia, Hampstead, Hudson, Londonderry, Manchester, Pelham, Hudson, Raymond, Salem, Sandown, Plastow, Hooksett, AMR, DerryPolice, NH State Police, NH DOT, NH Fire Marshals Office, and the Southern NH Regional HAZMAT Team.

A total of over 50 crew members assisted at the scene, alongside 35 total fire apparatuses.

Initial investigations believe that the fire was caused by construction from a roof in the area and is not believed to be a suspicious incident.

One firefighter suffered a very minor injury but was able to immediately get back to work.

Open burning will not be permitted due to anticipated high winds for Thursday, January 9.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
