HAVERHILL, Mass. — More than 10 adults and children were displaced following a 2-alarm, multi-family fire in Haverhill, officials said.

A shed fire on Vine Street reportedly spread to a large, Victorian-style, multi-family nearby at 8 Vine St.

One woman named Juanita said she believes the fire started near the back of the home. She said she made it out within seconds.

“When I looked back, my porch was on fire. I mean, if they wouldn’t have knocked on my door I wouldn’t have known what happened and I have my AC running and candles burning so you have different scents in the house and when I looked back I couldn’t believe you know, the porch was on fire, never expected in a million years,” she said.

Fire officials said the fire started in the shed behind the home and quickly spread to the home.

Firefighters were seen dumping water on hot spots late into the evening.

Crews from surrounding towns responded to the fire. Haverhill Police also assisted at the scene.

Several roads were shut down in the area, including Winter Street between White and Welcome streets.

The American Red Cross responded to assist the displaced residents.

The cause is undetermined.
