BOSTON — The Massachusetts National Guard is once again expanding its mission to help local school districts due to a national bus driver shortage.
The Guard will soon begin driving school buses in Haverhill, Revere, Wachusett, and Worcester.
In total, the Guard will be providing school transportation support in thirteen districts: Brockton, Chelsea, Framingham, Haverhill, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, Quincy, Revere, Wachusett, Woburn, and Worcester.
The Baker administration first launched this effort in September.
Soldiers from the National Guard immediately began training and more than 190 members of the Guard have since completed the driver’s certification process to operate school transport vans known as 7D vehicles.
The original order from the Baker administration makes up to 250 Guard personnel available for transportation assistance.
