Molly Bish’s family still searching for justice 22 years later

Monday marks an unbelievable anniversary.

On June 27th , it will be 22 years since Warren lifeguard Molly Bish was last seen alive.

“I miss my sister every single day and think about what her life could have been like,” Molly’s sister, Heather Bish, told me.

The Molly Bish case shocked all of New England.

Molly was just 16 years old on June 27, 2000, when she disappeared from her lifeguard job at Comins Pond in the Central Massachusetts town of Warren.

Some of Molly’s bones were found three years later, in the woods of nearby Palmer.

“My parents had to bury their daughter in a baby casket and we’ve been waiting and wondering who could have possibly hurt her,” Heather Bish said.

Last June, Worcester County DA Joe Early identified a man named Frank Sumner as a person of interest in Molly’s case.

Sumner was a violent sex offender who died in 2016.

Molly’s family is still waiting to hear if there is a DNA match.

“I know they sent out the material for testing, I’m not sure why it’s taking so long,” Bish said.

In a statement, the Worcester County DA said, “as we reach the 22nd anniversary of Molly Bish’s disappearance, our office, prosecutors, and investigators remain dedicated to pursuing all leads and information into her murder. State police detectives assigned to the Worcester District Attorney’s Office still receive tips on a regular basis on this case. We still continue to aggressively work on the matter.”

Today, Heather Bish’s life is completely changed.

She lives on Cape Cod now, where she is working to change state law to make it easier for investigators to use familial DNA to solve tough cases.

But Molly, and what happened to her, is never far away.

“What it would mean to you to get these answers for you and your family?” I asked Heather Bish

“It would mean freedom, it would mean justice,” she said.
