MIT police issue shelter in place order as officers search for wanted man on campus

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — UPDATE:

According to police, there have been no further sightings of the suspect on campus, but police remain on scene.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Police Department has issued a warning to stay away from campus, or shelter in place, as officers search for a wanted man.

Police say the suspect, who is currently wanted by the Somerville Police Department, was last seen in Building 37 around 5:40 p.m.

The suspect is described as a 47-year-old white man standing 5′11″ tall, 175 lbs, with a salt-and-pepper ponytail. He was wearing a dark jacket with a light shirt and blue jeans.

Police are asking those who encounter the man to call the MIT Police at 617-253-1212.
