CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A few local college students are being heralded as heroes after they rescued a dog that had been dumped into the roadway by a carjacking suspect on Saturday.
MIT Police say they were flagged down by several graduate students around 4:30 p.m. who claim they witnessed a dog being abandoned in the middle of Wadsworth and Amherst Streets by a suspect driving a BMW. The BMW then struck the students trying to rescue the pup from the street and drove away, according to authorities.
Officials say the BMW had been stolen out of Brookline with the dog inside the car earlier that day. The car was later found unoccupied on Winter Street in Cambridge.
After recovering the dog, the MIT students contacted the dog’s owner using the information on the pooch’s collar tags. The owner was reunited with “Millie,” the pup, at MIT and was very grateful to the students who stepped in to save her.
“This is a great example of the MIT Police and MIT Sloan School Graduate Students working together to reunite this dog with the owner for a heart-warming ending,” MIT Police wrote in a social media post.
The investigation into the carjacking remains ongoing.
