Dracut man charged with OUI, carrying semi-automatic rifle in back of truck, police say

TEWKSBURY, Mass. — A man was arrested Saturday afternoon for OUI and multiple gun charges after being found intoxicated in a Tewksbury parking lot, according to authorities.

Ronald Charette, 66, of Dracut, was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, operating under the influence of liquor, improper storage of a firearm and possession of a large capacity magazine.

Tewksbury Police say they responded to a parking lot in the area of 1788 Main Street for a report of a drunk driver operating a Ford F350 pickup truck.

The driver, identified as Charette, was taken into custody for OUI charges after an on-scene investigation by police.

While searching Charette’s vehicle, officers say they found an unsecured semi-automatic rifle in the back of his pickup truck. Additional gun charges were filed against him.

Charette will be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court.
