BYFIELD, Mass. — Two medical helicopters were forced to land on Interstate 95 in Byfield on Thursday morning after a serious rollover crash left people trapped in the wrecked vehicle they were riding in.
Emergency crews responded to the crash on the northbound side of the highway around 6 a.m. and found what appeared to be a white sedan in the grassy median.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to remove the victims from the wreckage. State police say they suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
It wasn’t immediately clear how many people were in the vehicle.
The highway was shut down to allow for the helicopters to land. All lanes were reopened shortly before 8 a.m.
The crash is under investigation.
