MAYNARD, Mass. — A wild crash scene was caught on a home surveillance camera in Maynard.

In a video released by police, a Toyota Avalon spins multiple times after police say it crashed into a vehicle. On the home surveillance video, you can see the man coming out of the car and running off.

Maynard Police Chief Michael Noble is hoping someone recognizes something from the video. “It had looked like he had done it before because he jumped out in the middle of the spin and that was after it was going violently. If anybody has ever been in a car accident, that is not easy to do, to keep your composure to jump out,” said Noble.

Maynard detectives are now looking for as many as 8-10 people including the driver who ran off. The police chief says when they responded to the car break-ins at Browns Paint and Body – right next to Christmas Motors – people were fleeing. Some in other stolen vehicles. “It is an organized group. They know what they are doing. They went specifically there. They weren’t just driving around,” said Noble. “They knew that sometimes dealerships, people leave their keys in there in their cars.”

The owner of the car stolen owns an auto body shop but says the damage is too extensive to repair. He told us off-camera he’s just thankful nobody got killed. The police Chief agrees – this could have turned tragic. “It was amazing that that car remained in the middle of the road the whole time,” said Noble.

The nearby car dealer told us their cameras did not capture anything but police are asking for people to check their home cameras to see if there is any more video.
