MORGAN, Vt. — Two men from Massachusetts drowned in a Vermont lake on Tuesday.

Police identified the victims as Aidan Connolly, 27, of Roslindale, and Nicholas Samuels, 29, of Weston.

Vermont State Police say their bodies were found in Seymour Lake in Morgan, Vt. Tuesday evening. The men were seen going under the water after their kayak overturned around 11:45 a.m. that morning.

Police say it was cold on the lake Tuesday, with heavy rain and strong winds that caused choppy waves and ice. The men set out from a protected cove, where the conditions on the open lake were not apparent and worsened while they were on the water, according to police.

They were found about 100 yards from shore.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner’s office to confirm the cause of death.
