MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. — A Massachusetts man charged with killing his parents was held without bail at his arraignment Friday and will undergo a mental health competency evaluation.

Not guilty pleas to two counts of murder were entered on behalf of Ryan True, 21, at his arraignment in Wareham District Court.

He’s charged with fatally stabbing Renee True, 55, and David True, 52, who were found dead in their Middleborough home on Thursday morning, according to prosecutors.

A voicemail seeking comment was left with Ryan True’s attorney.

Police went to the home at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday after getting a call from David True’s boss who said he had not shown up for work, police Chief Joseph Perkins said.

An officer forced entry into the home and found the bodies.

Ryan True stabbed his father during an altercation then stabbed his mother when she came home, the prosecutor said in court. A half-brother told authorities that the suspect had mental health issues and had not been taking his medication, prosecutors said.

David True worked for a paving and excavation company in Easton and Renee True drove a bus for special education students for the town’s schools.

The deaths were the first homicides in Middleborough since 2013, Perkins said.
