Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton returns from second trip to Ukraine

WASHINGTON, DC — Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton is back in the U.S. after making an unannounced visit to Ukraine and Poland.

It was the second visit this year to the region for the Rep. who has been outspoken about Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Moulton said he traveled with a bipartisan delegation consisting of Reps. Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona), Salud Carbajal (D-California), Sara Jacobs (D-California), and Joe Wilson (R-South Carolina). After meeting with U.S. troops in Poland, they crossed the border into Ukraine, where they met with Ukrainian and U.S. government officials in Kyiv.

Almost exactly one year ago, Moulton, Gallego, Carbajal, and Wilson visited Ukraine amidst heightened tension with Russia— in the weeks leading up to the invasion. When they returned, Moulton published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal warning that the U.S. needed to act much faster to deter Putin in the wake of a Russian military build-up at Ukraine’s border.

The representatives said their goal was to determine how to continue supporting Ukraine.

“Fundamentally, the purpose of this trip was to learn firsthand how the United States can continue to best support Ukraine eight months into Putin’s brazen and illegal war. Building on the trip we took last December, it was important to return to Ukraine now to see how the needs on the ground have evolved,” Moulton wrote in a statement issued after his return. “What we witnessed was nothing short of remarkable strength, resilience, and determination. While no one is under any illusion that this war will end soon, it is critical that we plan both for the needs of the moment and for the longer term. This includes continuing to send the right military and humanitarian aid—and quickly—to the frontlines. It also means thinking ahead about how to help Ukraine rebuild even stronger in the future.”
