There are dozens of reported UFO sightings documented each year and Massachusetts is among the top 20 states where you’re most likely to spot one, according to a new report.

Researchers at MyVision.org analyzed data from the National UFO Reporting Center Database and surveyed over 1,000 Americans in an effort to uncover which states have reported the most UFO sightings, as well as determine how many people actually believe in extraterrestrial beings.

California is the UFO capital of America with 15,401 sightings, researchers found. Florida was a distant second with 7,749 sightings. Washington, Texas, and New York rounded out the top five states with the most reported sightings.

Massachusetts checked in at 19th on the list with 2,538 reported UFO sightings. The only other New England States to rank inside the top 25 was Connecticut with 1,917 sightings, including 30 percent of which were reported in the last five years.

The survey also found that 78 percent of Americans believe aliens exist, and 1 and 10 people have seen a UFO or something they believed to be extraterrestrial. Additionally, 56 percent of those surveyed said they believe aliens have visited Earth.

In July, the House of Representatives approved an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that will establish a reporting system in which members of the military and other government employees can report UFO sightings.
