Mass. Lottery now allowing winners to claim some cash prizes via app

BOSTON — The Massachusetts State Lottery has fully launched a new way for prize winners to claim some winnings, without having to visit a lottery claims center.

It’s a news cashing feature in the Mass Lottery app.

“The introduction of mobile cashing is a terrific advancement for the Lottery as we adapt to new technological trends that have reshaped this industry,” said State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. “It not only accommodates our customers, but has the added benefit of positive environmental impacts by eliminating unnecessary driving and production of paper checks.”

More than 44,000 users have registered to use this feature since it was first announced in May.

Since that soft launch, 930 prize claims have been fulfilled through the app, with winners claiming prizes totaling $1.1 million.

With this full launch, the lottery says customers can now use the app to claim prizes ranging from $601 to $5,000. They money will be deposited to winners’ bank accounts.

“We are thrilled to offer this convenience to our customers, including particularly some who live more than an hour and a half from the nearest claim center,” said Michael Sweeney, Executive Director of the Mass Lottery.

The Mass Lottery app is available for Android and iOS devices.
