MASS — Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has been named one of 2023 USA Today’s Women of the Year.
The list that comes out each year honors women across the country who have broken barriers, and make significant changes in their communities and around the world.
Healey is the first woman elected governor of Massachusetts and made history as one of the first two lesbian women to be elected as governor of any U.S. state alongside Tina Kotek, who was elected governor of Oregon at the same time.
Healey is also being recognized for being a trailblazing leader for LGBTQ+ rights, and reproductive rights as well as for championing justice and equality.
Other notable honorees on the list this year include former First Lady Michelle Obama, the U.S Women’s National Soccer Team, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph and the women of the 118th Congress for their work and efforts to better the political landscape in the United States.
