Man dies in Maynard house fire, cause being investigated

MAYNARD, Mass. — A man died Thursday in a two-alarm house fire on Park Street in Maynard, the town’s fire chief said in a release.

Firefighters were called to the home just after 4 p.m. Thursday after officials received a call about a gas-like odor coming from the house. The victim was found dead inside the home after crews entered the building.

For two hours firefighters battled the blaze, which the chief said quickly spread and significantly damaged the home. Two Maynard firefighters were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

State, county and local officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
