LOWELL, Mass. — A man will face charges in connection to the deadly shooting of a 24-year-old in Lowell late Monday night, the district attorney’s office announced Tuesday.
Bravindah Mawanda, 20, of Lowell is accused of shooting and killing Nikhl Israni while the two men sat in the victim’s car in the area of Middlesex and Maude Streets around 8:00 p.m., according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
The DA’s office alleges that Mawanda shot Israni multiple times before exiting the car and running into his nearby home.
Israni was rushed to Lowell General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, Ryan says.
Police were able to identify Mawanda as the suspect and found a firearm matching the victim’s wounds, inside his home.
Mawanda will be arraigned Tuesday morning in Lowell District Court. The DA’s office did not announced the specific charges.
This shooting is being investigated by Lowell Police, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.
