OAKLAND, Maine — A Maine man is being held without bail following his arrest on domestic violence charges and an hours-long standoff with police in Oakland on Tuesday, state police said.
Jason Grant, 45, of Oakland, is charged with domestic violence criminal threatening, domestic violence terrorizing, violating conditions of release and creating a police standoff, state police said in a statement.
Shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday, the Maine State Police Central Field Troop received a report from a woman reporting threats and violence in Palermo.
The victim reported that Grant had made threats to harm her and others in her home.
Troopers, Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputies and Oakland Police officers responded to Ayer Street in Oakland, where police attempted to have Grant peacefully come out of his home, state police said.
After several hours, Maine State Police Negotiators along with Tactical Team members were able to safely take Grant into custody.
He was transported to the Waldo County Jail where he is being held without bail, state police said.
Oakland is a small town about 4 miles west of Waterville and approximately 18 miles north of Augusta. The town’s population was 6,230 at the 2020 census.
