Male suspect arrested after shots fired in Boston’s South End

BOSTON — A 39-year-old Boston man was arrested Monday after Boston Police received reports of shots fired on Albany Street in the city’s South End.

The Boston Police Department told Boston 25 News they were first alerted to the incident at approximately 9:10 a.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke to witnesses who allegedly observed the suspect, Daniel Santana, raise a black object in the air before making a loud blast before causing a bright flash of light, which police believe to be a muzzle flash.

Officials added that there are no reports of any injuries from this incident.

Police later observed Santana walking on East Concord and Harrison Avenue. Officers stopped him before recovering a loaded Star SA firearm with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine from a fanny pack that the suspect was wearing.

Santana was safely placed under arrest and is now facing charges for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, firearm with altered serial numbers, and lastly, possession and firearm discharged within 500 feet of a dwelling.

Santana is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
