MALDEN, Mass. — Malden police are investigating a Christmas Eve morning ‘shots fired’ call where multiple shell casings were located.
On December 24 around 9:35 a.m., officers responded to the area of 31 Prentiss Street for reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival to the area, officers did not see anything out of the ordinary, police say. After some investigation shell casings were located on the property that indicated foul play.
Neighbors on Prentiss Street peered out their doors after 10 loud shots rang out. Moments later, police swarmed the neighborhood.
Jonathan LaBonte lives next door and told Boston he heard arguing an hour before gunshots rang outside.
“We heard yelling and screaming earlier this morning before the shots fired,” LaBonte told Boston 25.
Other neighbors like Jonathan Fragetta said while his neighbors went outside, he hunkered down all day.
“I wouldn’t go outside if I heard gunshots!” Fragetta explained.
LaBonte said this might be the final straw for him and his family.
“I’ve heard a lot of gunplay in the area and we’ve been thinking of moving,” LaBonte explained. “My wife is pregnant and the kids are all inside and it’s just one of those things where we want to leave the situation behind us and go to Gramma’s.”
Malden Police Special Operations Unit (SOU) was called to the scene and provided a sweep of the home to ensure no one in the home had been injured.
The incident is under investigation and police believe this was not a random act.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
