A Lunenburg officer who saved a man from a vicious dog attack was honored Monday.
In August, Wayne Comeau suffered a vicious attack when a dog at the town’s animal control facility grew enraged and started to maul him. Officer Gage Russell responded to the scene, fatally shooting the attacking animal.
According to Wayne’s wife, the actions of the officer saved her husband’s life.
“It was horrific. I couldn’t help him,” said Kathleen Comeau. “There’s nothing we could do to get the dog off. The last bit took to his throat and he just said to me ‘I cant go any longer.’”
Wayne had to receive more than 600 stitches for his various injuries.
Despite his severe injuries, Wayne insists the dog wasn’t at fault for the attack. According to Wayne, it was the previous owner that caused the animal to become aggressive.
