DORCHESTER, Mass. — Two local women from Norfolk and Hadley have each claimed a $1 million prize won during Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, state lottery officials said Monday.
The winners claimed their prizes on Friday at the Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
Jan Busby of Norfolk said her winning numbers included the birthdays of family members. She told lottery officials that she only plays a few times a year, but played this time because the jackpot was so high. She purchased her ticket at Shaw’s supermarket, 255 East Central St. in Franklin.
Rae Ann Wentworth-Cadieux of Hadley said she chose the numbers 7 and 11 for the name of the convenience store chain and used race car numbers for the rest of her winning numbers (10, 13 and 24). She told lottery officials that she plans to use her winnings to buy a summer home. Her winning ticket was purchased at Pride Station & Store, 445 Russell St. in Hadley.
A third $1 million prize won in Massachusetts in this drawing was sold at the Global Montello/Gulf, 821 Main St. in Waltham.
Each of the three retailers that sold these winning tickets will receive a $10,000 bonus.
