BOSTON — Dale Arnold, who was a mainstay on the Boston Bruins television broadcasts for decades, is putting down the microphone for good.
Arnold, the voice of NESN’s pre-game, post-game, and intermission Bruins coverage, broke the news of his retirement during Tuesday night’s broadcast of the Bruins-Captials regular-season finale.
“I majored in psychology at Bowdoin because I wanted a backup plan but I knew the only thing I ever wanted to do was work Boston Bruins games on radio or TV,” Arnold said. “But the chances of a kid from a small town in Maine getting one of those jobs were pretty slim. Ahh...Guess what? Whatever you want most wants you and it worked.”

The Bruins also paid tribute to Arnold with a video during the first period of the game at TD Garden.
“Congratulations, it’s been nearly 30 years. It’s been a pleasure to have you a member of the spoked B,” said Charlie Jacobs, CEO and Alternate Governor of the Bruins.
Bruins legend Ray Bourque added, “A long, amazing career. I played 22 years. I don’t know long how many years you’ve been doing but it’s a lot longer than 22. You’ve done a great job.
“I want to congratulate you on your retirement. I want to also thank you for everything you’ve done for myself and all of us here with the Bruins,” Boston’s current captain Patrice Bergeron said.

Arnold looked on from the NESN broadcast deck inside the Garden as the Bruins bench gave him a stick tap. The sold-out crowd also saluted him with a standing ovation.
Arnold retired from WEEI in 2021 after 30 years with the radio station.
