The short turnaround between Thanksgiving and Christmas means everyone is scrambling and that’s affecting some nonprofits that collect toy donations this time of year.
At ABCD’s Dorchester distribution center, they’ve received about 500 toys so far but they need thousands more to help some 800 families who have signed up for help this year.
ABCD collects toys for kids up to 12 years old with an emphasis on the older kids because officials say they often receive fewer donations.
“Sometimes we think they’re just going to want that Xbox and we don’t provide the Uno games and Jenga, other toys that stimulate their minds,” said Monee Vance, ABCD neighborhood services coordinator.
You can help by dropping off toys to the Dorchester location at 110 Claybourne Street or by sending in a cash donation through their website.
Other local organizations are also looking for donations. Click here to donate to the Greater Boston Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
